The Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Rams announced Tuesday afternoon that veteran Rams wide receiver Van Jefferson and a 2025 seventh-round NFL Draft pick were traded to the Falcons in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round selection, pending a physical for Jefferson. Falcons linebacker Andre Smith Jr. was released off the 53-man roster in a corresponding move.

ESPN’s Ian Rapoport reported: “Sources: The #Falcons have agreed to trade for #Rams WR Van Jefferson. It’s a 2025 pick swap — 6th and 7th rounders. They hope to recapture his play from 2021. A low-risk, high-reward deal.”

Jefferson has 101 receptions, 1,499 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns across 49 NFL games. He is in the last year of his current contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent next March. Thus far in 2023 with the Rams, Jefferson has eight catches for 108 yards thus far in 2023, with limited playing time in the Rams’ Week 5 loss to Philadelphia. His best season came in 2021, when he recorded 50 receptions for 802 yards and six touchdowns, helping bring the Rams’ to their Super Bowl run.
